UKRAINE: BEYOND THE HEADLINES

Overview

Come meet the human side of a war that has changed countless lives.

Sausalito residents Ron Albert and Mike Cerre have recently returned from separate trips to Ukraine. Ron was on his third volunteer mission, working with humanitarian organizations in Kyiv.

Mike is best known as a Special Correspondent for PBS NewsHour and as the founder of San Francisco–based GLOBE TV. He is no stranger to war zones, having won an Emmy for his reporting as a foreign correspondent for ABC News while embedded with U.S. troops in Iraq.

Mike returned from Ukraine in September after participating in a convoy of fire trucks, ambulances, and other emergency vehicles traveling from Warsaw to Kyiv, where they were delivered for use in Ukraine.

Ron focuses on humanitarian projects, including clearing debris from buildings damaged by drone and missile strikes and installing emergency weatherproofing so families can safely remain in their homes. He also works with an organization that assembles and delivers individual first-aid kits to soldiers, as well as vital medical supplies to hospitals and healthcare facilities. In addition, Ron ships donated medical supplies from California to Ukraine.

Mike and Ron will share their observations, experiences, and photographs, and answer questions about their volunteer work and what they saw on the ground in Ukraine.
